Crafting Space

  • Posted on August 8, 2012 at 9:09 AM

I have at last found a great layout to get my craft done! It’s only taken me how long????

With lots of natural light for during the day and straight under a good light together with my desk lamp for night time work, I am now ready to get seriously crafty! I’ve found my glasses too which is also a wonderful thing!!!

My plan is to post photos of my creations and get them into the online shop. I am also looking into other markets and craft fairs around Sydney. All plans need to be flexible here but at least my space is sorted!

What’s Happening?

  • Posted on March 9, 2012 at 5:13 PM

Yes, it has been a long time between posts and a lot has been happening – not much craft though! A lot of thinking has been happening and the way Cassis Craft will be moving forward will be changing.

Cassis Craft was meant to be my way of doing what I love while still staying at home to be there for my family. Unfortunately, we have a small house and to run the business the way I would like to can not happen in this space. So…

I will be maintaining a small inventory of paper bead and quilling supplies, sourcing what I can that is a little different. I will focus more on what I would like to make rather than what I think everyone else expects and I will be making kits up of the projects I make. I won’t be trading at large craft fairs and I won’t be trying to stock every piece of quilling paper in the world! I would also like to start writing books. Books on craft and also my other love, food.  I am also running the uniform shop at my daughters’ school as a P&C volunteer and am also looking into returning to casual teaching. Yes, I think that will keep me busy enough!!

So thank you for your patience while I work this out. There will be some bargains happening as I streamline the stock so keep your eye out and subscribe to keep updated so you don’t miss out! You can also Like Cassis Craft on Facebook – click on the link to the left!

I’m Back!

I have been missing in action from here for quite a while for numerous reasons but I won’t bore you with those :)

Since the Sydney Craft and Quilt Fair in June which was such a fantastic week, I have been looking into the logistics and possibilities of doing further craft fairs. While the bigger ones are out for logistical reasons, smaller ones are possible. Do you know of any you would like me to exhibit at? Are you organising one? Due to the fact I have paper products, an inside venue would be preferable. Also, due to the logistical nightmare of owning only one car and having young children, it would need to be in Sydney!

I am also in the process of organising quilling classes from my home. What days and times would suit people the most? Would anyone be interested in a children’s class? How much would you pay for a 2 hour class?

Thank you for reading and I look forward to hearing your ideas. You can either leave a comment below or contact me via the Contact page.

Thinking of Products

  • Posted on April 7, 2011 at 8:35 PM

Over the past few weeks, I have been very quiet on the blogging front. During this time I have been going over exactly what I would like to stock, what products I think would appeal and what I enjoy making! This has a lot to do with the fact that I will be trading at the Craft and Quilt Fair in Sydney in June.

What would I like to see there? What would I buy if I were there as a customer.

On the quilling front, I know I like to get papers and books. The problem is, most of these seem to come from overseas. While the Australian dollar is performing well, there is still the cost of shipping to consider. Also, it appears quite a few craft shops now stock quilling papers. SO, I have been exploring and testing the world of Australian quilling papers. While we may not have the number of shades nor the long papers, I am still finding the quality to be really good. Therefore, I am going to have a bit of a mix. For the books, I am still contacting various distributors. As much as I would like to stock every quilling book available, I do have to have to limit myself!!

Quilling tools are also important and I am quite excited that I can source all the tools I need right here in Australia. The accessories on the other hand will need to come from overseas.

For kits, I am also going to source some from overseas but I am going to develop my own. I want to offer something a little different. Maybe a kit for a birthday party? Make something other than a card? This is where I am getting quite excited as it is where my creativity will be unleashed!!

For the Paper Beading side of the business, I am really happy with the tool kits and glaze I now stock. It was certainly a lot of fun testing the different glazes I bought! Some left a tacky finish, others seemed to change the colour of the paper, others still were too thick and gluggy.

I will also be offering kits to make different paper bead projects. Again, it is my creative side I will need to use and am loving some of the ideas I am coming up with!

If you have any ideas as to what you would like to see or something you have been looking for and can’t find, please comment!

Reed Gift Fair

  • Posted on February 21, 2011 at 7:37 PM

On Saturday, I went in to Darling Harbour to the trade only Reed Gift Fair. I’d been previously with my Mum for their business but this was the first time I was going as me, a business owner myself.

The day didn’t start well with trains terminating one stop before the one I wanted (of course there was no notification of this by CityRail at my boarding station) so I got the bus from there to the next station then walked as planned. Unfortunately my choice of shoes didn’t work well and I had several blisters before I’d even arrived.

The day improved significantly and my brain was exploding with ideas! It takes up all 7 exhibition halls, PLUS a promenade row PLUS an outdoor (not very well airconditioned) hall.

I’d gone to get display ideas as I will be sharing a stand in the same exhibition centre in June for the Craft and Quilt Fair (very exciting prospect), for the Stanhope Doll, Bear and Craft fair in 2 weeks and also to find some suppliers.

For 6 hours I walked and talked, handed out business cards, looked and thought. At the end I just needed to sit down, enjoy a snack and wait for my little family to come in to collect me (with a different pair of shoes) and to have dinner out. (See my other blog for that story!!)

Now to get busy making stock for the fair :)

Craft Fair in March

  • Posted on February 9, 2011 at 5:38 PM

On Saturday March 5th and Sunday March 6th I’ll be at the Stanhope Doll, Bear and Craft Fair at the Blacktown Leisure Centre. I am SO excited to be going as this will be the first fair at which I will be selling my wares!

I’m not sure what to expect. It’s a very large table so I’m madly trying to get my stock sorted for it. I have a few exciting products I will be selling so I will share them with you as I get them sorted.

Stay tuned!

Happy New Year

  • Posted on January 22, 2011 at 3:21 PM

Happy New Year to everyone out there! It is a little belated, I know.

It’s been a bit quiet on the creating front so far this year. The girls have been doing their craft kits from Santa as well as some science experiments but we have taken what good weather we have had to visit my parents who live near a beach. :) We’ve also had Amy’s birthday since Christmas and Sophie’s is next week. Not good timing with two January birthdays!!

While I may not have been creating much so far, I have been doing some ground work organising to sell quilling supplies as well as getting organised for 2 craft fairs I will be at. I am also looking into a regular artisan market and hopefully also running some classes. I will have to get myself creating in the next week though for 2 swaps I am in; one is for Valentine’s Day cards and another for Painted Paper Beads.

It should be a busy and exciting year ahead!

Order has arrived!

  • Posted on August 18, 2010 at 8:56 PM

A little happy dance was done when the box of craft goodies arrived this morning. Sophie was even more excited than me and was like a child on Christmas morning helping me to unpack it. I also felt like a child on Christmas morning!! This may have also had something to do with the fact that there were lots of goodies for Christmas crafts.

Now I have a clearer idea of what the bits look like, creative afternoons are in store.

First I must finish some Father’s Day cards for ArtEZan

Kits

  • Posted on August 16, 2010 at 9:12 PM

I’m very excited today because I put in an order today to start making up a couple of children’s craft kits. The little in-house guinea pigs are also excited about the prospect of some crafting afternoons too.

Now I would like your input and suggestions.

What sorts of kits would you like to see? (I have so many ideas but would like to match and add them to what you would like too).

How much would you be willing to spend on a kit?

Would you like postage to be included in the price of the product (what I’m thinking), added at the end of an order (according to size and weight) or flat rate?

What do you think of registered post?

It will take a while for some of the plans and ideas to come to fruition, so stay tuned!
