Crocheted Baby Blanket

Baby Blanket in Gift Box

In between the whole family having influenza and Sophie being rushed by ambulance to hospital with a convulsion due to her fever, while Greg was in Japan, a beautiful baby was born into our family.

My brother and his wife welcomed their first baby, Anna Grace, on the 1st August. Unfortunately due to our illnesses, we only got to meet her last weekend.

I wanted to give their baby something special and so after many attempts at different designs and not being happy with them, I finally settled on a simple granny square with scalloped border blanket. While I was trying to do something different, the granny square design is a classic and so pretty. They didn’t know what they were having so the main part I did in white and waited until the baby was born to add the pink border.

I have made (many, many years ago) crocheted blankets but not one this size or this special, not even for my own girls. I really enjoyed making it, watching it grow and imagined the baby in the pram with its soft blankie. I still have the one that my great-grandmother made for me and used it with both the girls. Hopefully baby Anna will love hers and keep it as a special reminder of her Aunty Belinda :)

Bamboo Wrap

  • Posted on November 19, 2010 at 4:20 PM

My current crochet project is another project for me! Wow, I must be spoiling myself! I am making myself a light shoulder wrap in black bamboo. I love bamboo for the fact it is a sustainable crop and the resulting yarn (although treated with all sorts of things and is classed as rayon) retains many of its natural properties and is so soft against the skin.

Bamboo Wrap start

This is it so far, not a lot, I know! The main part will continue straight and then it will finish with the triangle shape again. The girls’ ballet classes have finished so that’s an hour and a half a week I won’t have to sit down to work on it now :( Hopefully it will be finished soon as the weather here is crazily cold at the moment and I need something to cover my shoulders when wearing my summer dresses! I just refuse to get winter clothes out in November in Sydney!! I am hoping to finish it with some beads around the outside.

Crocheted Pigtail Scrunchies

Over at ArtEZan, not only do I have some unique, original design cards, but also some crocheted scrunchies and other hair accessories. These ones are made from a gorgeous blue and green Italian ribbon. They are a smaller size ideal for a little girl’s pigtails.

Baby Cardigan

I was lucky enough to get to test a crochet pattern for a wonderful designer based in New Zealand. Lisa van Klaveren has a blog, etsy store, patterns on Annie’s Attic, e-Patterns Central, Ravelry and probably other places too! I also found out she loves Anne of Green Gables too so she is a kindred spirit. :) When she posted she needed testers on Facebook, I jumped at the opportunity, particularly given a friend had recently had a baby girl but was moving somewhere warmer so the little woollen beanie I’d made her wouldn’t be quite suitable! I tested the sleeves but did not add them to the final cardigan since it would have made it too hot.

I really loved the fact that most of it was worked in one piece, saving on the very tedious task of starting off again and joining in new yarn, something I don’t enjoy, just like sewing in ends.

Thank you for allowing me to test it, Lisa. Your designs and patterns are really lovely.
